Fall Photography in Stevens Point, WI

By Zury - November 04, 2020

Fall. My favorite time of year. Ever since moving up north I've been able to truly appreciate the seasons instead of just 1 season year round. This year, now that I have a traveling partner, we wanted to take advantage of the fall season and enjoy it at peak time. Wisconsin is known its vibrant colors in the fall so I wanted to capture as much of it as possible.

TIP: Every year the peak weeks are sometimes never the same. So the best way to plan your trip is to follow a "Fall Report" for that state. For Wisconsin, they have a website dedicated to following when was peak week in each county and that's how we were able to plan our trips in October. Here's the website to plan your next fall trip to Wisconsin:  https://www.travelwisconsin.com/fall-color-report

Our first trip was the weekend of October 10th, 2020 to Steven's Point, WI. After doing a little research, I discovered the Stevens Point Sculpture Park. It has a lot of fun sculptures and some were even interactive. They also had bike trails and many nature trails, so we decided to give it a shot. I am so glad we made the trip because the walking trails were breathtaking with all of the vibrant colors all around you. Upon arrival, we entered into the sculpture park through a bridge and I had to stop and snap a photo of the beautiful colors. Here's the view I saw from the bridge overlooking the park.

If this was just the entrance, I knew this was going to be a good day for a photoshoot. The sculptures were pretty interesting. Some were focusing on self-care motivation, some were abstract, and one was creepy in a beautiful way...? I'll let you figure out which one that was lol.

I also stumbled across a wooden sculpture that was built well above our heads on stilts called "The Outhouse." I was fascinated by how it looked, especially with the amazing backdrop of the trees. It reminded me of a birdhouse in a way. This was probably one of my favorite sculptures but it was definitely a challenge to get the lighting just right but after a couple of tries I think I got it. I'll let you be the judge 😉

In case you never knew, I'm a sucker for macrophotography. I absolutely love it and always try and find an excuse to bust out my macro-lens to capture the finest details of objects. I couldn't resist capturing close-up photos of all the vibrant fall colors around me. Here is a sample of the photos:

Aside from the fun sculptures, I was absolutely loving the hiking trail views. The colors were so vibrant in every color. I definitely recommend taking a trip out to this park during peak season to enjoy views like this:

One fun and unexpected experience was right when we were about to call it quits. I noticed a biking trail at the end of the sculpture park but could see in the distance a large gathering of bright yellow trees compressed together. It was the type of scene I wanted to capture. The clearing was blocked by fallen trees and overgrown branches but we were able to maneuver over it all and get into an open path and yellow trees were surrounding me everywhere. It was a beautiful sight that I'm sure no one has even noticed before. Here are some photos as well as a video of the hidden area:

It sometimes pays off to explore away from the beaten path from time to time. Hopefully you enjoyed the adventure and appreciated the beauty of fall.
